BRAND IMAGE PROMOS

The most important goal when promoting a local news brand is to clearly communicate the value that its programming provides to its viewers. Along with that value, it's essential to demonstrate that the members of the news team are regular people who understand and relate to the needs and concerns of viewers. Of course, you also want to catch the eyes of viewers with attractive video and graphics that reinforce your message.

Your Safety & Security Matter

I had fun creating the graphic setup to go along with the "any day at any time" phrase. Each of the video boxes behind the day and time labels contains video shot by FOX23 News photographers for real stories.

Keeping Kids Safe Going Back to School

The return to school in the fall of 2020 was different than any previous year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because our news team would be answering a lot of questions parents had, I came up with the idea of arranging the letters in the words "BACK TO SCHOOL" to form a question mark. Then, to combine them with the FOX23 News logo to form an arrow, indicating clear direction. We used the "KEEPING KIDS SAFE" tag animation for a variety of special report promos, as well, to maintain visual continuity as we promoted stories on this topic.

Severe Weather Team – See Us on Every Screen

To demonstrate watching FOX23's severe weather coverage on multiple video platforms, I created a TV, a phone, and a smart watch with shape layers in After Effects. That allowed me to animate the shapes in a way that created smooth transitions from one device to the next. I also like the title animations I created with outlines flowing from one title to the next.

Local News Matters

I used 3D text in After Effects to integrate a few of the copy points into video of real-life scenes. I especially like the opening shot with the title suspended among the buildings of downtown Tulsa.

Winter Weather Gear

Winter weather conditions in Oklahoma can vary widely from one day to the next. That's what inspired my idea for layering on the cold weather clothing, snow shovel, and ice scraper in a series of quick cuts, and then to throw them all off at once.

Winter Weather Opinions

Some people love winter. Others hate it. However you feel about winter, wouldn't you like to know when the snow and ice are going to cover your neighborhood? To present that idea in a relatable way, I asked people on the streets of downtown Tulsa to give their opinions on winter weather. I was pleased to get a variety of answers that fit well into the copy I wrote for this spot and a few other versions.
