I love a well-written script, and I take pride in writing copy that communicates the desired message. However, one of the best ways for on-air news talent to make a genuine connection with viewers is to speak in their own words. The challenge is to ask the right questions to draw out succinct statements that will form a cohesive message to help build that connection. For each of the promos below, I conducted the interviews and edited the spots. Another member of the promotions team shot most of the video.
Clay Loney was always one of my favorite interviewers to watch. He is remarkably attentive to his interview subjects, and he asks very insightful questions. Because of that, I felt incredibly honored when he told me after this shoot that I was a natural interviewer and had done a great job.
FOX23's Chief Meteorologist James Aydelott has always been a great leader and mentor for the rest of the weather team. That became strikingly evident when I asked each of them about working with James.
Over the years, I've heard many FOX23 viewers express appreciation for this team's clear and calm approach to covering severe weather. This spot expresses how intentional they are about that approach.
