When your job involves writing promos for news content, you usually have to maintain a serious tone. That's why I love the opportunity to be more playful with language when it's appropriate. Here are a couple of spots that were not only fun for me to write, but they required some fun graphics and animations. They gave our voice talent a break from the serious news stuff, too.
The name Aydelott carries with it an obvious play on words: "ate a lot." A manager on FOX23's digital content team came up with the idea for James Aydelott to do some fun "James Ate A Lot" videos while trying various foods at the Tulsa State Fair. Of course, that opened the door to producing a very silly promo. I dove headfirst into every bit of alliteration and fun phrasing I could think of for this one.
This is an oldie, but a goodie. I remember writing this poem in my head while driving home from work one night. I kept repeating the lines out loud to make sure the rhythm was right and to commit them to memory until I could write them down. I had fun creating these animations, too.
